The “lift-off hood” Roadrunners were Plymouth’s directive for those who desired a lightweight muscle car, which could beat the heavier 426 Hemi (and nearly everything else from Detroit!) from streetlight to streetlight.
Only 722 “Lift-Off” hood 1969½ Roadrunners were produced.
This grand-prize Roadrunner is the rarer of the versions produced —1 of 422 with a four-speed manual transmission.
Its color is Vitamin C, one of Plymouth’s legendary Hi-Impact colors.
The Code A12 1969½ Plymouth Roadrunners included a 440 Six Pack big-block V-8 rated at 390 horsepower, three Holly 780-cfm carburetors, an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and a heavy-duty four-core radiator. Plus, they included a 4.10 ratio, Dana 60 axle with Sure Grip differential and G70x15 tires on 15x6-inch wheels.
For an original sticker price under $4,000, Plymouth’s street-scorching Code A12 1969½ Roadrunner made high performance affordable for the masses.
